Q:Good afternoon from India. My wife and I are travelling to the US next week for three months and would like to take medical insurance. My wife has a heart condition - Severe MR and she is implanted with an AICD as she is a Cardiac Arrest Survivor. Her cardiac physician has informed us that she can travel to the US. Would her condition be considered as pre-existing. If the policy covers Acute Onset of Pre-existing condition, would any medical emergency for her that involves a cardiac issue be covered under this. Thank you

A:
If the illness or injury existed in your body before the start date you can consider it pre-existing and would likely want to consider a plan with the acute onset of a pre-existing condition. An "Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition" is a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-Existing Condition(s) which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms, is of short duration, is rapidly progressive, and requires immediate care. The Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition must occur after the effective date of the policy. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence. A Pre-Existing Condition that is a chronic or congenital condition or that gradually becomes worse over time will not be considered Acute Onset. This benefit does not include coverage for known, scheduled, required, or expected medical care, drugs or Treatments existent or necessary prior to the Effective Date of coverage.

Q:How would a multi trip policy cover a Caribbean cruise with destination includes USA and outside of USA.

A:
Plans are designed to cover you outside of your home country, so if your home country is the US, you would not have coverage while in the US. Please call our office at 1(866)467-8289 for assistance in choosing a plan.

Q:My father-in-law is a drinker and a smoker, who will be visiting the USA from China. He does not get annual physicals, and has not needed to ever see a doctor, therefore I cannot be sure how healthy he is. He has never had a stroke or heart attack, and is aged 63. I plan on having a doctor in China, examine him and I expect he will be certified as fit for travel. If he is certified as fit to travel, and he were to have a serious stroke or heart attack, can I be sure this would be covered up to the policy maximum of 250,000, or would the coverage potentially be limited to 25,000 if a doctor in the USA renders an opinion that my father-in-law suffered the stroke or heart attack due to a pre-existing condition?

A:
Coverage is always going to be determined based of the doctors notes and medical records from the event. We are unable to advise on how the plan will pay based off a future scenario, as we do not have access to the medical record. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
